PROCLAMATIONS OR PRESENTATIONS:
PROCLAMATION:
“Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Month”
Mayor Dan Craighead
Here is the text of the Proclamation.
“Proclamation
NATIONAL ORGAN AND TISSUE DONOR AWARENESS
Whereas, more than 83,000 Americans are currently on the national waiting
list for a compatible donor organ and 1,100 of these are very young
children. Every fourteen minutes, another name gets added to the list.
Every day, fifteen people from the list die; and
Whereas, an effective way to address this situation is to educate and
to encourage citizens to commit to the following actions: consider organ
and tissue donation, inform your next of kin of your donation decision
and communicate with a major organization such as “The Living
Bank” in Houston, Texas (1-800-528-2971) to get registered as
a donor and to get your donor card; and
Whereas, to donate an organ to a dying person is to give the ‘Gift
of Life’. This can be a donation of a kidney from one who is alive,
but often the Gift of Life comes from an unknown person. When an anonymous
donor gives this blessed gift, he transcends his own tragedy and that
of his family to affirm and to exalt life for everyone whose lives he
touches; and
Whereas, the Mayor and City Council of Seymour feel that the cause of
“Organ and Tissue Donation” education is of such immediate
and worthwhile importance that,
NOW THEREFORE, I, DAN CRAIGHEAD, with and on behalf of City Council
do Proclaim that the City of Seymour, Texas observes:
“NATIONAL ORGAN AND TISSUE
DONOR AWARENESS MONTH
APRIL 2006”
In the City of Seymour, Texas, this 23rd of March, 2006, and cause by
my hand to be affixed the Seal of the City of Seymour, Texas. Dan Craighead
Mayor”
