Chief of Seymour Police Department, Tommy Duncan:
Tommy reported that the department answered 360 calls for service
and investigated 2 minor traffic accidents. There were 32 misdemeanor and
felony cases filed that included assault with bodily injury, criminal trespass,
driving while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession
of marijuana, resisting arrest and burglary. There were 29 people booked
into the holding facility between the Police Dept. and the D.P.S. and parks
and wildlife. Officers issued 140 citations and warnings, 76 of which were
for speeding over the posted limit. The code compliance officer abated
8 junk vehicles and tagged another 6. He sent out 136 compliance request
letters and filed 1 complaint. Tommy also related that Jerry Thornhill
from Granger, TX had joined the department as the K-9 handler replacing
John Wilkerson, who took a job in Fredericksburg. Jerry has been working
with Panther getting her adapted to the transition and they will be certifying
together as soon as possible. The police department has a new police car
in and it should be striped sometime next week. Tommy thanked the council
for the purchase of the new car.
The Mayor asked Tommy if he was able to make any progress on the
possible grant from the USDA for new police cars. Tommy replied that they
were working on the paper work.
RO Plant Operator, Rick Garcia:
Rick reported that he was staying busy at the RO plant. He also related
that the water consumption was low due to all the rainfall. The storms
have kept everyone busy. The hailstorm did damage to the city pool. A new
roof was put on and a new gutter was installed. He has been working on
some wells and getting them cleaned up. The RO plant is running good.
City Secretary, Conchita Torrez:

Mayor Pro Tempore for the Council Year
2007-2008.

A motion was made by Council Member Donald G. Coltharp to nominate
Council
Member Rose Tankersly to serve as Mayor ProTempore,
seconded by Council
Member Donna Fest.
