Child
Safety:
Amber Alert:
In conjunction with local media (KSEY FM) and with the help of grants,
we are now able to announce Amber Alerts if ever the need arises.
Fingerprinting:
We often provide safety fingerprinting for young children both at the
"Festival in the Park" and at local day care facilities as
part of the Project Kid Care Program.
Bicycle Safety:
With the help of the Texas Department of Health, we presented a Children's
Bicycle Safety Course and provided free bicycles helmets to the graduates.
Child Abuse Awareness:
We sponsored a program on Child Abuse Awareness that was popular with
teachers in the City.
Drug Awareness:
With the help of local merchants, the Seymour Police Department sponsored
a "Why I Will Say No to Drugs and Alcohol" essay contest in
the local Junior High and High School. This successful project required
the students write an essay against the use of drugs and alcohol and
awarded cash prizes. We feel this was a very successful program - the
students had to think on a personal and immediate level about the dangers
of these substances.
Meth Awareness:
Last winter, we hosted the North Texas Drug Task Force Members in a
program geared for parents and teachers to help them understand this
insidious drug and spot the signs of use by their children.
School Officer:
In Seymour schools we have a full-time officer provided to us under
a federal grant program called COPS IN SCHOOLS. This uniformed officer
is present on site to increase the safety in the schools and to build
the strongest relationship possible between the school system and the
Police Department.
Halloween Safety:
Each October 31st, we greet the “Trick or Treat”ers during
the “official” Trick or Treat time from 6 pm to 8 pm. We
often give away glow in the dark safety bracelets and small goodies.
Often we will have 300 or more children stop by the Police Department
to say hello during the festivities.
Special Olympics:
We are so honored to be given the opportunity to be involved with
the Special Olympics. Our Seymour Panthers Special Olympians earn gold
and silver medals almost every time they compete! Most impressive of
all, these athletes earn the great affection and admiration of our citizens
every time they compete. They are truly special kids. GO PANTHERS!
Traffic Safety:
We sponsored Drunk Driving Awareness and Safe Driving Awareness in
our efforts to educate the public on these important issues.
Other Classes and Programs:
We held a "Safety course for Women" several years ago. We
hope to hold this class again in the near future.
"Fatal Vision":
The Seymour Police Department also has the "Fatal Vision"
goggles and we have presented several programs with them. They educate
citizens on the effects alcohol can have on a person. There are four
pairs of goggles, each showing different degrees of intoxication during
the day and night. Many people don't realize until they wear the goggles
exactly how altered your perception is when you are intoxicated.
Identity Theft Prevention:
Recently we held a free class to give information to citizens regarding
how to protect your identity. This is important information in today’s
fast paced electronic media world.
Our programs and classes put us out in the community and allow us to be
visible in a positive way. We are always eager to hear feed-back from
the community regarding these programs, positive or negative.
