Child Abuse Awareness Month
Whereas, Child abuse and neglect are complex and ongoing problems in
our
society, occurring more than 826,000 times each year; and
Whereas, In Texas in 2002 there were 203 children who died from abuse
or neglect; and
Whereas, in Baylor County, we currently have three of our children in
the foster care system, and in any month, our local Child Protective
Services officer investigates an average of five reports of neglect
or abuse in our community; and
Whereas, Every child is entitled to be loved, to be cared for, to be
nurtured and to be secure; and
Whereas, Preventing child abuse and neglect is the responsibility of
all citizens and community action is needed — the Texas Department
of Protective and Regulatory Services encourages you to become an advocate
for children;
