Seymour Named Exemplary District
by Callie Poindexter

Seymour was recently named an exemplary school district
by the Texas Education Agency for the first time since the 2001-2002 school year.

The high school and middle school met the TAKS score and completion rate qualifications of the exemplary title while the elementary school met the qualifications of the recommended title,
making the Seymour school district eligible to receive the honor.

The TAKS score exemplary qualifications include having greater than or equal to 90 percent total passing on all tests, and in addition to these scores a school must have a 95 percent completion rate
by students, (less than or equal to 1.8 percent dropout rate).

Dr. Greg Roach, high school principal, is proud of Seymour’s accomplishment and
realizes this means we must work twice as hard to stay on top.

“We are expected to be exemplary. No student is ever supposed to not master anything, and when we are not [exemplary], it provides us with an opportunity to learn and chances to improve,” said Roach.

Roach realizes who deserves recognition and thanks for this honor, as well.

“I think it is a direct credit to the teaching staff and students. It takes a lot of work.

You have to be doing a lot of real school to achieve this goal,” said Roach.

Seymour students and teachers will continue to strive for success in hopes of
obtaining this award for many years to come.

“There is absolutely no sense in being common at anything you do.

The expectation is that we will achieve this yearly,” said Roach.
